Hello My Name Is...
Mr. Alford
My name is Adam Alford, and this will be my 7th year teaching. I started at Mason Creek Middle as a student teacher (yes, it counts) for a year before spending the last five years at Chapel Hill Elementary where I taught 5th Grade Science, Social Studies, and Writing. I will miss Chapel Hill, but I'm excited to be at Fairplay.
I am originally from LaGrange, but have lived in Douglas County for seventeen years. As you can probably surmise, teaching is not my first career. I won't bore you with my work history, but the highlights include four years in the Navy as an aircraft electrician, and ten years at ADT as a commercial installation tech and as a manager. As you can see, I'm not afraid of "change."
I have been married to my wonderful wife for seventeen years, and we have six kids. I have three kids at Alexander, two at South Douglas, and another that's two years from kindergarten. Sometimes, my household runs like a well-oiled machine, but most of the time it's a circus. The grass is never cut properly, and the clothes aren't folded fast enough to avoid wrinkles, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I believe that my work experience outside the classroom, my experience at the elementary level, and being a parent with three kids that went through Fairplay provide me with a unique perspective and toolset to help to relate to the students, parents, and the community. I AM part of that community. I live just around the corner. My kids play baseball and softball at the park. I buy more groceries at the Dollar General than I probably should. I have a vested interest in the outcome of these kids' education.
